FAQs

Below, you'll find answers to many of the most common questions about my practice, covering topics like insurance, cancellation policies, and how to begin therapy. If you don't see your question listed here, please feel free to fill out the contact form to reach out.

What is your session format and rates?

50 minute session: $200 If you live in Minnesota or Colorado and you are looking for individual therapy, I am in network with Blue Cross (BCBS). I reserve a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients who need financial flexibility. A sliding scale allows us to adjust my rate based on your income or current financial situation. These spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If I don't currently have an available slot, I would be happy to refer you to other trusted providers who offer lower-cost options. If cost is a concern for you, please don't hesitate to reach out directly. I am more than willing to discuss this openly and work with you to find a solution.

How do I pay for therapy?

I accept cash, check, and card. The online system accepts most credit/debit cards, including HSA and FSA cards that function like a regular card. Before your first session, you will receive a secure form to enter your card info. The session fee is charged the evening of each appointment.

Do you take insurance?

If you live in Minnesota or Colorado and you are looking for individual therapy, I am in network with Blue Cross (BCBS). Otherwise, I am considered an out-of-network provider, which means I do not participate with any other insurance companies directly. I've chosen this approach to preserve flexibility in my practice and protect your privacy. In my view, therapy shouldn't be constrained by insurance requirements or necessitate forced diagnoses, treatment plans, etc. That said, if your insurance plan offers out-of-network mental health benefits, you may qualify for partial reimbursement. Navigating these benefits is typically more straightforward than it sounds. You have two main options: Option 1: I work with Thrizer, a company that can submit claims to your insurance on your behalf for a small fee. After meeting your deductible, you can choose to pay the full session rate upfront and receive reimbursement from your insurance via direct deposit. Alternatively, you can pay just your co-insurance portion, and Thrizer will cover the remaining cost while they wait for reimbursement from your insurance company. Visit this link to check your out-of-network benefits. Option 2: If you prefer handling insurance yourself, I will provide you with a monthly superbill that you can submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement. You would be responsible for paying for each session in full at the time of your appointment. Feel free to discuss these options with me during our initial consultation call, and we'll figure out what works best for your situation!

How do I know if I have out of network benefits?

You may have more coverage available than you realize! To find out, simply call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions: Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits? What is my deductible for out-of-network services, and has it been met yet? What percentage of each session will be reimbursed to me? (Note: The CPT code for a 45-minute individual psychotherapy session is 90834.) How do I submit a superbill for reimbursement? Are there any limits on the number of sessions or pre-authorizations required? If you decide to use superbills for out-of-network reimbursement, please let me know. Please be aware that in order for insurance to process these claims, a mental health diagnosis must be included on the superbill. You can learn more about determining your out-of-network benefits here.

How often will we meet?

I offer standing, recurring appointment times on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis. This ensures you have a dedicated spot reserved in my schedule exclusively for you. When weekly availability permits, I often recommend starting with weekly sessions. Consistency tends to make therapy most effective, particularly during the early stages of our work together. If possible, I encourage new clients to commit to weekly meetings for at least the first six weeks. This approach helps build trust, creates momentum, and supports meaningful progress from the start. If a weekly slot isn't currently open, we may begin with bi-weekly sessions and revisit our frequency as we move forward. After those initial six weeks, we'll reassess what best supports your goals, whether that means continuing weekly or adjusting to a bi-weekly rhythm. All scheduling decisions are made collaboratively and tailored specifically to your needs.Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits? Are sessions private and confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of the therapeutic relationship. Everything you share in session remains private. Before we begin, you will receive a written informed consent form that clearly outlines how your privacy is protected. You retain control over your story; I will not share any information with anyone (including other providers) without your explicit written permission. There are, however, a few legal and ethical exceptions designed to ensure safety for you and others. As a mandated reporter, I am required to break confidentiality if: There is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, an elder, or a vulnerable adult. You are at serious risk of harming yourself or someone else. If such situations arise, I will handle them with care, transparency, and respect. My priority is always to support your safety and well-being while honoring your autonomy and dignity as much as possible.

How do you handle cancelations?

My appointment times are reserved exclusively for you. I require at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session. Without this advance notice, the full session fee will apply. Please note that no-shows are also subject to the full charge. That said, I understand that life can be unpredictable! I offer one grace period for a late cancellation or no-show per client. After that initial exception, any cancellations or reschedules made with less than 24 hours' notice, as well as missed appointments, will be billed in full. Because your time is just as valuable as mine, if I need to cancel our session with less than 24 hours' notice (outside of a true emergency), I will waive one future late cancellation or no-show fee for you—unless we are able to reschedule our meeting within the same week. There are, however, a few legal and ethical exceptions designed to ensure safety for you and others.
